“We were one of the first meat CSAs in Massachusetts,” shares Kim Denney of Chestnut Farms in Hardwick. “People sign up and once a month can pick up a package of just-processed beef, pork, lamb, and poultry.” They have pick up locations in both Amherst and Northampton.
Kim, pictured here with husband Rick Jackshits and two grandchildren, talks about their business model, humane practices, and how a fascination with Little House on the Prairie eventually begat her life of farming,
“Our mission is connecting people to agriculture,” she says. “I feel strongly that understanding what it takes to raise an animal from birth to plate allows people to make good choices about their food.”
